The academic nude refers to a classical tradition in Western art in which the human body—usually the unclothed one—is studied, idealized, and endlessly scrutinized under the gentle tyranny of “good taste.” Born in the studios and academies of the Renaissance and later formalized by 19th-century art schools, it treats the body as both a technical challenge and a noble subject.
