Because the courier of the Prince Abbot of Fulda arrived too late with the harvest permit, late harvest was discovered on Johannisberg in 1775.
Thomas Mann's fictional character Felix Krull, who was born in Eltville, described the Rheingau as that privileged area of land which, to put it mildly and without harshness, is probably one of the loveliest on the inhabited earth.
