Even the name of the futuristic-looking leisure pool “Kurfürstenbad” bears witness to this influence. The Reformation and Counter-Reformation also left their mark, which can be traced in the minor basilica of St. Martin and the parish church of St. George. Since Amberg was spared from the bombings of the Second World War, the historic city center presents itself in an impressively authentic manner. Shops and quaint little shops have harmoniously set up there, and cozy cafes invite you to linger in front of a historical backdrop. Even in side streets, visitors are always offered new and surprising perspectives, picturesque corners, gastronomic diversity and owner-managed shops that tempt you to browse and discover. Finally, a special attraction is the world's only air museum. Here, the history of the building, modern art, humor and profundity are skilfully combined to form an irresistible whole, which also characterizes the city of Amberg and makes it so likeable.
