Bolivia, named after the independence fighter Simón Bolívar, is considered the poorest country in South America. It is crossed by two Andean mountain ranges, the heights of which reach over 6,500 m. Over 50% of the population (around 11 million in total) belong to the indigenous peoples, mostly Quechua and Aymara. The main economic sectors are mining and agriculture, often the controversial cultivation of coca. The capital is Sucre and the seat of government is La Paz.
The author stopped in the Andean country for three months in 2014 during his 28-month PanAmericanArte tour across the entire American continent.
