A motif from the calendar "Pirmasens" by Andreas Jordan: Pirmasens, located on the edge of the Palatinate Forest, takes its name from the itinerant preacher Pirminius and was first mentioned in a document in 850. Landgrave Ludwig IX zu Hessen-Darmstadt, who had a preference for large grenadiers, developed the place into a garrison town, which then received city rights in 1763. After the death of the landgrave and the decline of the garrison, the population made a virtue of necessity and switched to shoe manufacturing, which is why the Pirmasensers are still called "Schlabbeflicker" today.
