Half-timbered building in Germany
The old deanery in Höxter once belonged to the Corveyer Lehnshof. It is the best-known residential building in the Weserrainassance style in Höxter. It was built on behalf of Christoph Amelunxen from 1564 to 1571. With elaborately designed half-timbered rosettes and delicate carvings, the building is a testament to the skill and inventiveness of the former building craftsmen. Since 1796, the half-timbered house has served as the rectory and residence of the parish dean of the Catholic parish. Half-timbered houses consist of wooden frameworks, which form a skeleton structure in which the horizontal struts are carried out using diagonally installed struts. The gaps are filled with clay-plastered wooden mesh or masonry. The German half-timbered structure surprises with the variety of different construction details and decorative elements.
