Skippers Canyon is a 22 km long canyon north of Queenstown in the south of New Zealand's South Island.
The impressive gorge rises steeply to the right and left of the Shotover River.
From 1862 onwards the area was a paradise for gold diggers - today it is the home of adventure sports.
The whitewater of the Shotover River was the richest river in the world after the Klondike in Yukon, Canada.
To this day, only one narrow, adventurous road leads there: the Skippers Road.
For film fans, the locations from the “Lord of the Rings” films are a very special highlight.
