Snapshots of the Disibodenberg monastery ruins (monthly calendar, 14 pages)
The Disibodenberg is located at the confluence of the Glan and Nahe rivers. It got its name from the Irish monk Disibod. He settled there in the 7th century
and began the Christianization of the surrounding area.
Hildegard von Bingen, self-confident and charismatic nun of the Benedictine order, spent almost 40 years on the Disibodenberg.
After Hildegard's departure, the monastery experienced a decline.
The Thirty Years' War and the War of the Palatinate Succession caused major damage to the monastery. After the rule of the French, the monastery complex served as a quarry.
This calendar attempts to provide a snapshot of the current condition of the monastery ruins.
