The Mayans were a very ancient civilization that lived in areas that are now part of Mexico and other countries in Central America. They lived in small houses made of wood and straw. Almost all Mayans had to work hard to have enough food for everyone. Children were very important to the family and the community. They were strictly prepared for their role in the community.
The Mayan civilization began about 4000 years ago and ended with the Spanish conquistadors about 500 years ago. Descendants of the Maya still live there today. The calendar for children by drachenkind-fotografie was created with the help of Ki and is inspired by the Mayan culture.
