The black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) is a species of bird from the family Scolopacidae. Black-tailed godwits are long-distance migrants and breed primarily on wet meadows. During courtship, their breast plumage turns red-brown and shiny. The call sounds something like “wed”, “geg” or “grutto”. This is where the species gets its Dutch name “Grutto”. In Germany she is commonly called “Greta” in some regions for the same reason. Here you will find impressive pictures of this snipe species throughout the calendar year.
