In recent years the image of the railway on Usedom has changed fundamentally. Until 1992, locomotive-hauled trains with the BR 110 ran across the island, and the railway line was about to be closed. Since UBB was founded, things have been steadily improving. The class 772 railcars were replaced by the class 646 in 1996. In 2000, the gap between the Wolgast Hafen and Wolgaster Fähre train stations was closed. The declared goal is to rebuild the railway line over the Karnin Bridge between Świnoujście and Ducherow to Berlin.
