These small agamas are quite common in tropical Asia. They can reach a height of around 49 cm, although the tail, which they do not shed when threatened like some species of lizards, is approximately twice as long as the rest of their body.

The reptiles can change their color, especially during the mating season, the males have a bright orange or crimson color on the head, neck and shoulders. This coloring ability gave the bloodsucker dragons their name - not because they were bloodsuckers.

If the scaly coat becomes too tight, these agile hunters hide in bushes, bushes, rock crevices or in trees to shed their skin, where they can feel safe from enemies. At the beginning of the lizard's day, the cold-blooded dragons like to take a long sunbath, because the warmth of the sun really gets their circulation going. The useful animals mainly hunt insects, but occasionally they also feed on plant food.

On Pulau Pangkor, a small island in northwest Malaysia, Bianca Schumann captured the animals in their natural environment and staged them in 13 photos for this calendar.
