The sparrow is a songbird and belongs to the sparrow family of birds.
The house sparrow, as our sparrow is officially called, is not yet threatened with extinction, but is on the warning list of threatened species.
According to the German Wildlife Foundation, populations have declined by 20 to 50 percent in most federal states over the last 25 years. In Hamburg, the sparrow population has even fallen by 85 percent.
It would be a shame if these cheeky little sparrows no longer kept us company.
