The beautiful island of Neuwerk is equally popular with nature lovers and those seeking peace and quiet. The daily routine is largely determined by the tides and the leisurely life is only interrupted when tourists from the mainland arrive on the island for a day trip or a vacation. We particularly recommend arriving by mudflat wagon or on foot along the mudflat hiking trail across the seabed. An experience that you won't forget so quickly. Watt wagon operations are available either on the island or from the mainland.
The island is located off Cuxhaven, but belongs to the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. If you enter the mudflats from Sahlenburg or Duhnen, you can see the Neuwerk lighthouse from afar. At over 700 years old, it is one of the oldest towers on the German North Sea coast.
The extensive mudflats are an important habitat for many breeding and resting birds. Interested holidaymakers can take part in guided mudflat hikes through the UNESCO World Heritage Site/Hamburg Wadden Sea or look for amber in the mudflats in front of Neuwerk.
The charm of this island captivates many a nature lover and leaves an unforgettable impression on them.
