Before the reactor accident on April 26, 1984, around 50,000 residents lived in the city of Pripyat, who were immediately evacuated. It was a showcase for what was then the Soviet Union, where people lived much better than in the rest of the country.

The photographer Tom van Dutch visited the exclusion zone and shows impressive photos of the amusement park, the hospital, the school and other buildings in Pripyat and Chernobyl.
