To this day there is debate about whether the Koniks are direct descendants of the European wild horse, the tarpan. There is no denying that these ponies look very similar and it is certainly no coincidence that they are kept like wild horses in many places. Koniks are also used as riding and work horses. They are robust and frugal. The animal photographer Sigrid Starick accompanied Koniks with her camera and shows her in 13 wonderful pictures.
