The Caminito del Rey is a spectacular hiking trail near El Chorro near Málaga (Spain). Originally built as a supply route for the reservoirs, which are used to store water and generate electricity, it leads through several gorges up to 200 meters deep. The path owes its name to the visit of the King of Spain when it was completed in 1921. Over the decades, the path fell into disrepair and mutated into the “most dangerous via ferrata in the world”. After it was closed due to several deaths, it was finally restored at a cost of several million euros between 2014 and 2015. The result is an impressively exciting hiking trail that winds its way along the vertical rocks at a height of 100 meters. An absolutely worthwhile destination in Andalusia.
