In fact, there were gold deposits in the area around Korbach in earlier times. This may also be the reason why the small town became a member of the Hanseatic League in 1469 as the southernmost town. The historic town hall with its arcades dates back to a building from the 14th century, but received its current appearance around 1930. There are numerous lovingly renovated half-timbered houses in Korbach's romantic old town.
