Koalas, scientifically Phascolarctos cinereus, are not actually bears, but rather tree-dwelling marsupials and live exclusively in the eucalyptus forests on Australia's east and southeast coasts.
The eucalyptus trees are both living rooms and pantries for koalas.
A koala sleeps in the forks of trees for up to 20 hours a day.
The animals only wake up briefly at night to eat eucalyptus leaves.
