The small town of Alzey is located south of Mainz in Rheinhessen. It has many beautifully restored historic half-timbered houses. There is also a castle and the pretty market square invites you to linger.
Particularly striking here is the horse of the knight Volker von Alzey at the Rossmarkt fountain. Alzey is also called the Volkerstadt after this knight and is part of the Nibelungen saga thanks to its mention.
