Traveling craftsmen of the Middle Ages became sedentary people. This made it easier to meet increasing customer demands and more complex production methods through more extensive tool arsenals in the workshops.
Workshops and homes were often housed in the same building.
Handcrafted products were made to order, such as the orthopedic shoemaker, the goldsmith and art smith or the furniture carpenter.
The user and purchaser of a craft service has a say in the usage characteristics of the product to be produced based on their experience and use.
